NPD New Seismic Data in Southeastern Barents Sea and Jan Mayen

In 2011 and 2012, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate acquired seismic data off Jan Mayen and in the southeastern Barents Sea.

In the southeastern Barents Sea, Dolphin Geophysical acquired 6766 line-kilometres during the periods of 26 April – 15 June and 1 – 6 July 2012, using the survey vessel Artemis Atlantic.

PGS acquired 2D seismic with the survey vessel Nordic Explorer. In 2012, 9508 line-kilometres were acquired off Jan Mayen during the period of 5 June – 9 August.

“All of acquisition projects last year were carried out in an optimal way,” comments Sissel Eriksen, Director of Exploration at the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.

In February, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate presented its first resource estimates for the waters off Jan Mayan and the southeastern Barents Sea. These estimates are also based on this new seismic data.
