NPD Starts Nordland IV and V Seismic Survey (Norway)

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) today started seismic data acquisition in the Nordland IV and V areas in the northeastern Norwegian sea. The work is planned to last for one month.

The  Norwegian Parliament has tasked the NPD with mapping the seabed to gain knowledge regarding potential petroleum deposits in the area. Originally, the acquisition was to start on 1 July, but it was postponed to avoid the Institute of Marine Research’s mackerel mapping in the same area.

The acquisition is divided into four partial areas, and the plan is to complete one area at a time so as to disturb the fisheries as little as possible. The work has started in the northernmost area.
