NYK Ships First Cars from New Pipavav RoRo Terminal

The first consignment comprising 1,380 new Figo Aspire vehicles produced at a plant of Ford India in Sanand, Gujarat, were loaded onto NYK’s Grand Dahlia at the newly constructed NYK RoRo terminal facility at the port of Pipavav on August 26.

Construction of this RoRo terminal began in July 2014 by NYK Auto Logistics (India) Pvt. Ltd and the facility became operational in August 2015.

It has an annual throughput capacity of 250,000 vehicles and is equipped with a PDI centre for processing vehicles.

NYK Auto Logistics (India) operates the Pipavav terminal facility jointly with Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd, a subsidiary of APM terminals.

Pipavav port is located in northwestern India in the state of Gujarat. Automobile companies such as Ford are planning to expand their exports from the west coast of India in the future, and Pipavav is expected to become a hub port for these exports, NYK says.
