Odfjell orders two LNG-ready chemical tankers

Norwegian shipping company Odfjell signed final shipbuilding contracts with China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding for the construction of two LNG-ready chemical tankers.

The two vessels will be 38,000 dwt, both with 40 tanks and a cargo capacity of about 45,000 cubic meters the company said, adding that the contract is valued at US$116 million.

In an additional statement sent to LNG World News, the company added that the two dual-fuel tankers will have enough bunker capacity to carry both heavy fuel oil (HFO) and marine gas oil (MGO).

However, both tankers will be designed for future conversion for LNG propulsion and also prepared for scrubber retrofit.

This order follows the earlier orders for four 49,000 dwt vessels with 33 stainless steel cargo tanks.

The first vessel will be delivered in June 2020 and the following vessel three months later, Odfjell’s statement reads.
