OGS Boosts Its Explora Vessel

French seismic acquisition equipment provider, Sercel, has been awarded a contract for the provision of a multi-channel seismic acquisition system by the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS) in Trieste, Italy.

The equipment will be installed on the digital telemetry research ship “OGS Explora” for conducting marine seismic surveys.

The overall value of the contract is approximately $1 million.

The research vessel OGS Explora was acquired in 1989 and it’s the only ocean research vessel with a capacity owned by a public entity currently existing in Italy.

According to OGS, the main objective of the vessel OGS Explora is to enable the geophysical and oceanographic research of the scientists of OGS, of the scientific European and international community.

The vessel has an overall length of 72.6 meters and a breath of 11.8 meters.
