Okaloosa County Supports Destin Harbor Dredging (USA)

The Okaloosa County Tourism and Development Council is chipping in $100,000 to help pay for dredging and long-term erosion management controls.

This happened after erosion threatened to block the entrance to Destin Harbor at Norriego Point.

Every day we are getting closer to an accident,” said Mike Eller of the Lady Em and the Destin Charter Boat Association. “It’s like a time bomb waiting to happen.”

We’ve been lucky there have been no accidents, but that’s because Destin has some damn good boat captains,” he added.

This money will be invested in widening the channel and the future erosion control project.

I think this is a no-brainer,” Commissioner James Campbell stated.

It’s unfortunate that we have to spend this kind of money, but it’s well worth it,” concluded Campbell.
