Oldendorff Acquires Capesize Resale

German bulk carrier owner and operator Oldendorff Carriers has acquired a Capesize newbuilding resale from Chinese shipbuilder Jinhai Heavy Industry.

The 180,000 dwt vessel was launched in summer 2016 and is expected to be delivered to the company in March or April 2017 under the name MV William Oldendorff, the company said.

With a gross tonnage of 88,500 tons, the Capesize ship has a length of 292 meters and a width of 45 meters.

William Oldendorff, which features CSDC-180k design and B&W 6S70MC Mark 4 engine, is the first regular 180,000 dwt Capesize vessel in the company’s fleet, according to Oldendorff. Earlier, the firm sold two 180,000 dwt resale ships to Greek owners for USD 58 million and USD 50 million, which were delivered in August 2014 and January 2015.

In addition, Oldendorff plans to acquire three secondhand ships including two Post-Panamaxes and one Kamsarmax.

This will bring the company’s secondhand and resale acquisitions in the last 12 months to 22 ships, according to Oldendorff.
