ONGC awards three-year deals to Shelf Drilling rigs

Offshore drilling contractor Shelf Drilling has been awarded contracts for two of its jack-up rigs with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) for operations in Mumbai High, offshore India.

Shelf Drilling said on Wednesday that its C.E. Thornton and F.G. McClintock jack-up rigs had been awarded three-year contracts each.

The planned start-up of operations is in the fourth quarter of 2019, the company added. Bassoe Analytics estimates the dayrate for each rig is around $42,000.

This is lower compared to $55,000 the two rigs had at previous contracts completed earlier this year, also for ONGC.

The C.E. Thornton 300 foot jack-up drilling rig was built in 1974 and upgraded in 1984. The rig completed its previous contract with ONGC last March.

The F.G. McClintock was built in 1975 and its last upgrade was performed in 2002. This jack-up completed its previous gig with ONGC in February 2019.
