OOCL Christens Its Newbuild Mega Vessel

 

Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard based in Geoje Island, South Korea today held a christening ceremony for the eighth of ten 13,208 TEU containerships, ordered by OOCL.

The vessel, leased to NYK Line of Japan, was named MV NYK Hyperion by its Sponsor Mrs. Harriet Tung, wife of Mr. C. C. Tung, Chairman of Orient Overseas (International) Limited .

“By embracing innovative designs and the latest green technologies, OOCL is committed to introducing efficient and environmentally-friendly vessels to the shipping community. With a sophisticated hull form design and state-of-the-art engine technologies, these are just some important features that contribute to lowering energy consumption levels which in turn reduces emissions into the environment,” the company said in a press release.

The NYK Hyperion will be serving the Asia-Europe trade.
