Scottish energy consultancy Tymor Marine, which has offices in Glasgow and Aberdeen, has marked the end of its second year in business by opening its first overseas facility in the United States.

The Louisiana-based offices will fulfil the needs of new and existing clients operating in the Gulf of Mexico region.

The expansion follows a second successful year for the naval architecture and marine engineering specialist. The company, which focuses on marine, subsea and structural design and analysis, is on track to record turnover of £800,000 for the financial year ended March 2014, representing annual growth of 60 per cent. Tymor Marine currently employs 10 people, but expects this to increase to 16 in the coming year as it seeks to grow its turnover by two-thirds.

The firm’s US operations will trade as Tymor Marine US Inc from offices in Kaplan, Louisiana – close to Lafayette – where it will apply its knowledge and experience of naval architecture and marine engineering to assist US clients with activities such as stability analysis, seafastening and project cargo shipments.

Two full-time members of staff are currently employed in the US office but this is expected to grow to four within the next quarter. Experienced engineering project manager Lonnie Gaspard has been appointed as vice president and is responsible for delivering Tymor Marine’s in-depth technical design and analysis services in the region.

Managing director Kevin Moran said: “Having formed strong and successful relationships with our existing client base, we are now seeking to support them as they enter and grow their activities in the Gulf of Mexico region. Opening offices in the US is therefore a natural progression for Tymor Marine. Lonnie brings a wealth of local knowledge to the role which, coupled with our physical presence in the US, should provide Tymor Marine with an advantage as we enter this new market.

“Tymor Marine’s client base is a mixture of tier one, two and three suppliers and our intention is to maintain that balance as we grow the business internationally. By developing the ability to support projects from all of our bases, we aim to even out any local market fluctuations.

“During this past year the business has grown ahead of our expectations, illustrating the level of demand there is for our services from marine, subsea and energy companies. The US office will make a significant contribution to the business in the coming year as we look to repeat this year’s 60% growth.”
