PAI Takes the Helm at Port of Cotonou

Port of Antwerp International (PAI) signed an agreement to take over the management at the Port of Cotonou in Benin on January 10.

Under the deal, signed for a period of 10 years, Antwerp Port Authority’s consultancy and investment subsidiary PAI would modernize the Port of Cotonou, which handles over 12 million tons of cargo on an annual basis.

In late December 2017, the Council of Ministers of the West African country of Benin elected PAI to manage and modernize the country’s port.

The government opted to temporarily outsource the management of the port in an effort to upgrade its outdated infrastructure and organization, and prepare for and guide the expansion of the port.
