Palfinger Dreggen’s offshore cranes for Johan Sverdrup field

Palfinger Dreggen has been awarded a contract from Statoil for crane delivery to the Johan Sverdrup field, located in the North Sea.

Palfinger says that the total order value is approximately NOK 285 million ($36.48 million).

According to Palfinger, the delivery includes seven large offshore cranes with a lifting capacity of 60 tons, an outreach of approximately 60 meters, and will be delivered with full-electric drive. The company notes that the electric drive contributes to both energy efficiency and reduced maintenance.

Managing director, Halldor Rongve, says: “The order represents an important milestone for Palfinger Dreggen. It confirms the strategic decisions by our investment in new production facilities and our systematic strengthening of in-house competence in Norway for development of cranes to complex offshore projects.”

Rongve added: “The Johan Sverdrup contract will be a very important contribution for the activity at our Bergen office as well as impacting the activity of the entire organization. Engineering, project management and procurement will mainly be performed in Bergen and most of the production will take place at Palfinger Dreggen’s own factories in Poland and South Korea.”

According to the press release, the cranes will next be installed at relevant location for the further construction of the various platform topsides on Johan Sverdrup.
