Petrofac hires UMW’s jack-up rig

Malaysian drilling contractor UMW Offshore Drilling has won a contract from oilfield services provider Petrofac for the provision of jack-up drilling rig services in Malaysia.

UMW Offshore Drilling, a subsidiary of UMW Malaysian Ventures which is, in turn, a subsidiary of UMW Oil & Gas Corporation (UMW-OG), will supply its UMW Naga 5 jack-up rig for the drilling program.

UMW said on Tuesday in a Bursa Malaysia filing that the contract is Petrofac’s drilling program that consists of two firm wells with the option of an additional well plus one well beginning in the second quarter of 2017.

The UMW Naga 5 is an independent-leg cantilever jack-up drilling rig that has a drilling depth capability of 30,000 feet and has a rated operating water depth of 400 feet.

The company left the financial details of the deal undisclosed.

UMW Offshore Drilling was also recently awarded another jack-up rig drilling contract from its compatriot Vestigo Petroleum.
