UMW wins drilling contract with Vestigo

Malaysian drilling contractor UMW Offshore Drilling has been awarded a contract for the provision of a jack-up drilling rig from compatriot Vestigo Petroleum.

UMW Offshore Drilling, a subsidiary of UMW Malaysian Ventures which is in turn a subsidiary of UMW Oil & Gas Corporation (UMW-OG), will supply its UMW Naga 2 jack-up drilling rig for Vestigo’s drilling program.

Vestigo Petroleum is principally involved in the development and production of marginal fields in Malaysia.

UMW-OG said last Friday in a Bursa Malaysia filing that the contract with Vestigo was for the drilling of one firm well and that it would begin at the end of the first quarter of 2017.

UMW Naga 2 is a cantilever jack-up rig that has a drilling depth capability of 30,000 feet and a rated operating water depth of 350 feet.

The financial aspect of the contract was left undisclosed.

Late last year, the Naga 2 jack-up drilling unit was hired by the Australian oil company Octanex for drilling development wells at the Ophir field, off Malaysia. The rig will be deployed at the Ophir field in the second quarter of 2017.
