Chevron’s massive Big Foot drilling and production platform sailed away from Corpus Christi, Texas this past weekend and is on its way to the offshore location in deepwater Gulf of Mexico.

The Tension Leg Platform, able to accommodate 200 people, will  be the deepest TLP installation at 5,330 ft (1,615 m) water depth.

The platform has a design capacity of 75,000 barrels of crude oil and 25 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. The field has an estimated production life of 35 years from the time of start-up, and total potentially recoverable oil-equivalent resources are estimated to exceed 200 million barrels. Proved reserves have been recognized for this project.

According to Chevron, after the installation of the platform, offshore hook-up and commissioning activities will follow, with oil is expected in late 2015. Two additional wells are expected to be drilled
from the platform in 2016.
