Construction on the Dunkirk LNG terminal in France, which is owned by EDF Group, is progressing well.

Work on the LNG terminal began in April 2012 and commissioning is expected at the end of 2015.

The EUR 1 billion terminal comprises one berth that will be useable by the world’s largest LNG tankers (QMax), which are fitted with three reservoirs that can hold 190,000 m3 each.

The terminal also features a 5 km-tunnel beneath the Dunkerque western outer port, thus connecting the LNG terminal to the Gravelines nuclear power plant and enabling the use of the power plant’s discharged hot water to reheat and regasify the terminal’s LNG.

The Dunkirk LNG terminal will have an annual regasification capacity of 13 billion m3 of gas, representing around 20% of France and Belgium’s annual natural gas consumption.
