Planet Ocean Delivers WaveGuide to Fugro

Planet Ocean has delivered fourth Radac WaveGuide Onboard systems to Fugro under the frame agreement signed earlier between the companies.

A modified WaveGuide radar wave sensor is installed on the bow of the ship. The sensor uses radar to measure distance to the water surface.

A motion sensor is incorporated into the radar unit to compensate for the vertical motions of the radar itself and so it measures the waves the ship is actually experiencing, the company explained.

Michael Quinnell, manager of the Offshore Systems department of Fugro said: “The data provided are used both onshore and offshore in a number of ways but providing unambiguous wave measurements for assessment of operational safety limits is key for Fugro. Other uses include aiding the deployment and recovery of ROV and AUV technology as well as providing useful survey data without the need to deploy wave measuring buoys.”
