H.E. Al-Attiyah: Planning for Qatar*s 77Mta Celebrations in Final Stages

His Excellency the Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and industry of the State of Qatar, & Chairman of Qatar Petroleum, Abdulla Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, said Qatar is in the final stages of preparations for the much anticipated official celebration of the country’s milestone that fulfils the Emir, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani’s vision of achieving liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity of 77 million tonnes per annum (Mta).

This celebration event will be held on Monday 13 December 2010 under the patronage of His Highness the Emir at Ras Laffan Industrial City, welcoming guests from Qatar and all four corners of the world.

His Excellency Abdulla Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah said: “It is indeed an honour for the State of Qatar to be the world’s largest producer of LNG. In achieving the vision of His Highness the Emir, we are also proud that Qatar moves further ahead in fulfilling Qatar Vision 2030, which is the cornerstone of our country’s development strategy based on the four fundamental pillars of human, social, economic and environmental development. “Many years ago when Qatar set out to achieve the 77Mta target, this landmark was considered an ambitious goal. Today, Qatar has fulfilled this ambition and has built the flexibility to deliver LNG to any market where there is demand. This is the result of many decades of prudent planning and utilization of global best practices across all our operations, due to which the State of Qatar has also built great credibility within the global energy community.”

In September 2010, His Excellency Al-Attiyah established a multi-discipline 77Mta Task Force charged with making this event a success. The Task Force comprises representatives of Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas, RasGas and Ras Laffan Industrial City, as well as a Higher Committee that oversees event planning.

Abdulaziz Al Malki, Director, Office of the Deputy Premier & Chair of the 77Mta Higher Committee, said: “With just over a month until the event, we are working within our communities to create a campaign that befits an achievement of this magnitude. In the build-up to the event, the campaign will affirm our commitment to the four pillars of Qatar Vision 2030, which together continue to define and shape Qatar’s growing international reputation.”
