P&O Cruises’ Ship Suffers Power Failure

Aurora, a cruise ship owned by British/American company P&O Cruises, suffered a power outage while the vessel was en route from Bermuda to the Azores on September 20, the cruise line’s spokesperson confirmed to World Maritime News.

The cause of the power failure was not unveiled. However, media reports suggest that the outage was due to a fire in the engine room which was subsequently extinguished.

“All guests and crew are safe and the ship immediately ran on back up generators. All services are running as normal on board,” the spokesperson added.

The 76,152 gross ton Aurora is on a 30-night North America-Canada cruise. The 2000-built vessel departed Southampton on August 27 and is currently off the coast of Portugal, the Azores.

Aurora is due to return to Southampton on September 26.

Following the power failure, the onward itinerary of the ship is unaffected, according to P&O Cruises.
