Poland: Remontowa SA Receives Certificate of Compliance with OHSAS 18001 Standard

Remontowa” SA has been granted a certificate of compliance with OHSAS 18001 standard (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series). The awarding ceremony took place at the 16th International Maritime Exhibition Baltexpo in Gdańsk, Poland. The shipyard was certified by Det Norske Veritas. The certificate is tangible proof that the shipyard established an OH&S management system forcefully protecting both its employees, co-operates and other parties be exposed to OH&S risks associated with their shipyard activity.

It is also a clear message for the clients that OHS has always been on top of the agenda in “Remontowa” SA, and that, in line with this, the shipyard has always put emphasis on maintaining and continually improving its OH&S management system so as to meet the strictest world standards.

Granting of the OHSAS 18001 certificate was preceded by a series of detailed audits conducted by Det Norske Veritas Business Assurance, an external organization examining the shipyard’s accident prevention and risk reduction and elimination procedures.

As a result, the certificate has been granted for three years. During this period further audits are to be performed, and, in case of a positive assessment, the OHSAS certificate is likely to be prolonged.

It is worth mentioning that “Remontowa” SA has been both the only yard and the first heavy duty industry company in Poland awarded with the OHSAS certificate.

Awarding the certificate clearly proves that Remontowa SA is a health and safety assurance leader” said the chairman of Det Norske Veritas Business Assurance Tomasz Gasinski during the awarding ceremony  “We congratulate the company on having taken this important step, hoping that by doing so it has set a trend for social responsibility for employees that other Polish companies will follow“.
