Port of Tallinn’s Former Board Members in Bribery Probe

Port of Tallinn has reshuffled its Management Board as two of the board members resigned amid bribery suspicion.

“On 27th of August, members of the Management Board of Port of Tallinn Ain Kaljurand and Allan Kiil resigned due to bribery suspicion,” the port said in a release.

The duo has been detained by the police for systematic taking of bribery linked to Esteve terminal and HTG Invest, long-term partners of the Port of Tallinn. The exact amount of the bribe has not been disclosed apart from saying that “an extensive amount” was in question.

As informed, on the same day, the Supervisory Board appointed Marko Raid, the current Chief Financial Officer, and Carri Ginter, attorney, as temporary members of the Management Board.

The port is expected to issue a public competition notice soon to fill the said positions full time.

The bribery case was revealed by the Estonian media in a story that included six more prominent businessmen also involved in the transport sector. In total eight persons have been arrested.

“We hereby confirm that no suspicions have been submitted to any legal person including Port of Tallinn and its subsidiary companies. We also confirm that Port of Tallinn continues to fulfil its contractual terms and obligations and the fact of detaining the former members of the Management Board will not give any basis for terminating any of the contracts already valid,” the port further added.
