Port of Tyne Offers ApprenticeshipsThe Port of Tyne is recruiting five new apprentices in finance, engineering and security, to help reach the target of 25 apprentices each year.

 

Geoff Gillon, Port of Tyne Director of Human Resources, said: “This is a tough time in the job market, with many young people struggling to find career opportunities.

“The future is exciting the Port of Tyne is investing in expanding our business operations and improving the chances for young people is part of our commitment to the community.”

The Port of Tyne is one of the UK’s leading Investors in People organisations and invested £500,000 in training development in 2013, equating to 15,000 hours of training.

Recruitment is currently underway for five apprenticeships, with more planned later in the year.

“We have 16 apprentices who are enjoying the opportunity to earn while they learn and achieve a recognised qualification while gaining vital work experience,” said Geoff Gillon.

“Apprentices provide an excellent alternative to academic study, and offer a fresh perspective that we’ve found is good for business, creating more dynamic teams.”

In 2012, the Port achieved silver status with Investors in People, placing it in the top 2% of all IIP companies.

The number of full-time jobs at the Port increased by 11% in 2013, reaching the number of 566 employees.

The closing date for the Port’s current apprentice vacancies is Friday, July 11th, with more recruitment planned in September.
