Primagas supplies its first LNG customer in Germany

The Krefeld-based energy supplier Primagas has delivered liquefied natural gas to a customer in Germany for the first time.

The customer’s system includes three co-generation units that produce electricity and thermal energy for heating and cooling purposes. It also has a vaporizer unit that can convert the super-cooled and, thus, liquefied natural gas back into a gaseous state.

The LNG is transported from the terminal in Rotterdam by the logistics partner PrimaLNG, a market leader on the European continent that operates an LNG truck fleet in Western Europe.

Energy-cost savings of up to 15 percent

LNG pays off for customers in many ways: The world’s gas reserves are two to three times larger than its oil reserves. This ensures long-term availability. It has a wide range of uses, is compatible with various plant technologies and is future-proof as a result. LNG-fired systems are generally more cost effective and environmentally conscious than those powered by heating oil or diesel fuel: Potential savings can amount to 10 percent to 15 percent of energy costs.

“The delivery of the first tank load is a critical milestone for our new LNG business division,” says Thomas Landmann, Sales Director at Primagas. “As a full-service provider, Primagas supplies customers with more than LNG. We plan and erect systems that are used for a range of purposes and that come in all sizes – several such units are being constructed at the moment.”
