Promising Future for New Port at Alviso (USA)

A group of South Bay governmental agencies has contributed 360-thousand-dollars toward a study that will look at developing a port in Alviso.

The study will look at the pros and cons of developing a port that will handle supplies during an emergency.

Backers of the port plan say it could also lead to future development in the Alviso area, which is currently home to three thousand people.

However, environmentalists are against the port plan because they say it cost too much and that extensive dredging would be needed due to the water being only four feet deep during low tide.

A public meeting is scheduled for tonight at the San Jose-Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce in San Jose.
