QatarEnergy hands out FEED job for LNG project to Chiyoda

Japanese engineering company Chiyoda Corporation has landed a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) assignment with QatarEnergy LNG, which is acting as an agent for Qatar’s state-owned oil & gas giant QatarEnergy.

QatarEnergy has tasked Chiyoda with a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the North Field West (NFW) LNG onshore facilities in Ras Laffan, Qatar.

This project is the company’s third expansion of LNG production from the North Field, which will increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity to 142 million tons per annum (mtpa) upon project completion.

Chiyoda has executed over 100 projects for clients in Qatar with its local group company, Chiyoda Almana Engineering, and continues contributing to Qatar’s LNG production expansion through this FEED contract.

The North Field, which is shared between Iran and Qatar, is known as South Pars on the Iranian side. With 15 appraisal wells drilled over 14 years, the asset was established to hold recoverable reserves of more than 900 trillion standard cubic feet (tscf).

The North Field Expansion encompasses the North Field East (NFE), the North Field South (NFS), and North Field West projects to raise the Persian Gulf state’s LNG production capacity from 77 to 142 mtpa in 2030.

Lying off the northeast shore of the Qatar peninsula, the gas field, discovered in 1971, covers an area of over 6,000 square kilometers, equivalent to about half the land area of the State of Qatar.
