Qatargas pens new deal to supply LNG to Pakistan

Qatargas, the world’s largest LNG producer, has signed a 20-year contract with Global Energy Infrastructure (GEIL) of Pakistan for the supply of liquefied natural gas.

Under the agreement signed on Thursday, Qatargas will deliver 1.3 mtpa of LNG per year to GEIL, with the option to increase the volumes to 2.3 million tons per year, a company’s statement reads.

The first cargo under the newly signed agreement is expected to be delivered to Pakistan in 2018.

The newly signed contract adds to the deal Qatargas signed in February with Pakistan State Oil Company (PSO) for the supply of 3.75 million tons of LNG per year for a period of 15 years. The first cargo under the long-term deal was delivered in March.

Pakistan is importing the liquefied natural gas through Excelerate Energy’s 150,900 cbm FSRU Exquisite, which is chartered by Engro Elengy, located at the Port Qasim in Karachi.

Qatargas has also delivered the first commissioning cargo to PSO onboard the FSRU Exquisite.
