Qatargas wins British Safety Council awards

Qatargas said it has won two awards from the British Safety Council the “Sword of Honour” for occupational health and safety management and the “Globe of Honour” for environmental management.

Qatargas, the world’s largest LNG producer, was one of only four organisations worldwide who were successful in winning both the Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour in 2014. It was one of 50 organisations worldwide that achieved a Sword of Honour, which is awarded to organisations who have demonstrated excellence in the management of health and safety and one of five organisations worldwide presented with a Globe of Honour, which is awarded to organisations who have demonstrated excellence in environmental management, the company said in a statement.

In order to compete for the Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour, Qatargas first had to achieve the maximum five stars in the British Safety Council’s occupational health and safety and environmental management audit scheme in the period August 2013 – July 2014. Qatargas had to also demonstrate to an independent panel of experts that they are excellent in their occupational health and safety and environmental management throughout their Shipping business.

Khalid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Qatargas Chief Executive Officer, received the award from Alex Botha, British Safety Council Chief Executive, at a special ceremony held at Drapers’ Hall in London.
