Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) producers Qatargas and RasGas have reportedly started laying off staff as part of the plan to cut operating costs.

The job cuts were planned for July this year when Qatar Petroleum decided to merge its two LNG companies.

However, due to the diplomatic rift in the area during the year the process was delayed, Reuters reports citing sources close to the matter.

As much as 500 staff have reportedly been let go.

While a number of employees already received new appointments within the merged entities, a significant number of workers was notified of redundancies.

LNG World News contacted Qatargas for comment, however, no response has been received by the time this article was published.
