Qld Premier: QGC’s investment boosts job creation

Queensland’s Premier and Minister for the Arts Annastacia Palaszczuk said that QGC’s A$1.7 billion investment is a boost for the state’s LNG industry as jobs dwindle.

Palaszczuk said in a statement on Monday that, “As the LNG industry in Queensland moves from the construction phase to the operational phase, there have been fewer jobs in the industry than there were in the boom years.”

However, the latest investment will create 1600 new jobs, Palaszyzuk added.

State Development Minister Anthony Lynham said, “By 2018, Queensland could be the world’s fourth largest LNG exporter and, by the end of the decade, Australia has the potential to be the world’s leading LNG exporter.”

Queensland’s LNG exports were projected to hit A$15 billion by 2016-17, Lynham added noting that further development of the industry will create more operational and construction jobs in the future.
