Renewables Aid Marine Wildlife

A new study has looked into the effect of offshore marine renewable energy devices on marine organisms.

Renewables Aid Marine WildlifeThese devices provide novel habitat to marine organisms, allowing species to spread to new areas.

The study focused on marine fauna, particularly pelagic larvae, such as barnacles or gastropods, in the region around south‐western Scotland.

Even though these devices have a positive effect on marine ecology, creating new dispersal pathways, they could also provide habitat to invasive species.

To ensure the ecological balance of species, the report recommends site monitoring.
