Repaired Primula Seaways Back in Service after Collision with MSC Madrid

Primula Seaways, a Ro-Ro ship which collided with a containership MSC Madrid in March, has returned to service after undergoing repairs at Fayard in Denmark, DFDS, owner of the ship, said.

The 2004-built RoRo ship was pulled out of service from the busy Ghent – Gothenburg/Brevik route for several weeks.

As a contingency measure, DFDS replaced one of the ships on the route, Ark Germania, with Petunia Seaways from the Gothenburg – Immingham route, as the latter has more cargo space.

In addition, the company chartered the vessel Maestro Sea to assist with the cargo flow in the meantime.

“This means we will be back on the full and original schedule on Wednesday once we have delivered Jutlandia Seaways back to the Cuxhaven – Immingham route and fully adapted the sailings,” Per Nordvang, Director of DFDS Operations in Gothenburg, said.

DFDS added that the Gothenburg RoRo Terminal also got the traffic overflow well in hand, noting that the service is back to normal. Things are back to normal in Ghent as well following a knock-on effect due to a canceled sailing.

The company disclosed earlier that Primula Seaways had sustained damage to its port side and to one of the trailers located near the damaged part of the hull. There were no injuries or pollution reported following the incident.
