Report: Pakistan, Qatar strike $16 billion LNG supply deal

Pakistan and Qatar have reportedly inked a 15-year LNG supply deal worth $16 billion.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Pakistan’s energy minister, told Reuters on Monday, that Pakistan will import 1.5 million tons of LNG per year. He added that the shipments are set to start during December.

The country is also looking to close similar deals in the future, according to the report.

Pakistan began importing LNG in March this year in order to replace conventional fuels to fire its power stations.

The country is importing LNG through Excelerate Energy’s 150,900 cbm FSRU Exquisite, which is chartered by Engro Elengy, moored at the Port Qasim in Karachi.
