Report: Total to extend exploration works offshore Cyprus

French oil company Total could give it another shot with searching for gas offshore Cyprus, the Mediterranean country’s energy ministry has said.

To remind, it was reported in January this year that Total would not proceed with exploration in its 10 & 11 offshore blocks southwest of Cyprus, as it was unable to identify suitable drilling prospects.

However, according to Cypriot media, energy minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis has said during this week’s visit to the U.S. that the government hopes to strike a deal with Total for further exploratory work.

According to Cyprus Mail, Lakkotrypis said: “The renewed agreement that we hope we will be signing next week will be talking about doing geological surveys in a different area but no drilling.”

“They can drill if they identify a drillable prospect, which unfortunately they have not done so far.”
