Research Vessel ‘Sonne’ to Visit Bremen

Next Monday,  November 17, 2014 the new, 116 meters long German Research vessel SONNE is going to be commissioned in Wilhelmshaven.

Afterwards, SONNE sets sails for a trip along the German coasts to be presented to the public on open days.

Its home port Wilhelmshaven is going to be the starting point for these events on Monday.

Afterwards, the ship is going to berth alongside the Getreidehafen in the City of Bremen, the visitors entrance is located at the end of Gröpelinger Fährweg.

The visitors will be given an insight into the life and work aboard a research vessel, take a look at the bridge , the working deck or the hangar . In addition, extensive exhibition on topics such as climate, seabed exploration or deep-sea biodiversity, will be provided in the laboratories and on deck.

On the working deck of the ship, the visitors will be able to observe different devices from the marine research and measuring instruments that are issued from the expedition every day . Also, In the simulation container , for example, visitors may even be able to see ROV pilots and control the underwater vehicle MARUM-QUEST .
