Revolution Wind Gets Rhode Island Power Contract

The Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission has approved Ørsted and Eversource’s long-term power contract with National Grid for the 400MW Revolution Wind offshore wind project.

According to Ørsted, the 400MW offshore wind farm will power more than 270,000 homes in Rhode Island, which is circa 25% of the state’s total electricity use.

National Grid filed for regulatory approval of a 20-year contract for energy for Revolution Wind with the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission (PUC) in February.

Revolution Wind has secured a total of 700MW offshore wind capacity, with the capacity awarded in Rhode Island and Connecticut, which is being built as one joint project.

Once all permits are secured, local construction work on the project site some 15km south of the Rhode Island coast could begin as early as 2020, with commissioning expected by 2023.
