Rongsheng Heavy Secures Its Place Among Top 5 Shipyards in the World

Rongsheng Heavy Industries, China’s largest private-owned shipyard, has for the first time secured its place among the Top 5 shipyards based on their newbuilding order books on the global level, Asiasis daily news informs.

The Clarkson Research company’s report, encompassing newbuilding orders, ranked among the first five the following companies: Samsung Heavy Industries’ Geoje shipyard with 6.96m cgt in Shipyard Orderbook, followed by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering’s Okpo yard, Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Ulsan and Gunsan yards and STX Offshore’s Jinhae and Busan yards with 6.14m cgt, 5.29m cgt and 3.57m cgt, respectively.

The fifth place scored by Rongsheng, which previously occupied the 6th spot, has first come up to the 5th place with 2.98m cgt, squeezing out South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (2.88m cgt) to the 6th place.

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard of South Korea is ranked as seventh, while Oshima Shipbuilding of Japan (1.95m cgt), Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co of China (1.69 cgt) and Jinhai Heavy Industry of China (1.58m cgt) each took the eighth-to-tenth places.

Based on the report Asian shipbuilders remain market leaders on the global level when it comes to securing orders for construction of new vessels.
