Rosneft orders harsh-environment supply vessels from Zvezda

Russian oil firm Rosneft and the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center (FESRC) have signed contracts for delivery of two unique multi-purpose supply vessels of reinforced ice-class Icebreaker 7.

The document envisages delivery of the first two Zvezda Shipyard built vessels at the end of 2019 and during the first half of 2020. The shipyard itself, located in Bolshoi Kamen, at Russia’s Far East in under construction.

This is not the first order by Rosneft signed with Zvezda. Considering the implemented options for the last year contracts, Rosneft order is already four vessels of this type.

The contracts signed to expand the agreements made in 2014-2015 will make it possible to provide pilot workload for Zvezda shipyard and reduce opex for offshore fields development by using own fleet.

“Delivery of high tech supply vessels is an important step towards the implementation of Rosneft large scale program of offshore fields’ development in extreme climates. In turn, RESRC, with the increased number of reliable contracts, will be able to raise the implementation efficiency of the project for development of the Far Eastern Ship Building Cluster and to ensure balanced operations of the Zvezda Shipyard,” Rosneft said on Thursday.
