Royal HaskoningDHV to Carry Out Preparatory Works for SOEC Project

A special meeting of the Isle of Wight Council cabinet to discuss the approval of Isle of Wight tidal energy project will be held on Thursday.

Preparatory works, which include site surveys, environmental impact assessments and drawing up engineering and design specifications for the Solent Ocean Energy Centre (SOEC) project, will be carried out by Royal HaskoningDHV.

The SOEC project will be located at St Catherine’s Point, and it is expected to become operational by January 2017, reports Isle of Wight tidal County Press Online.

The tidal energy farm will be capable of generating 200-300MW of power, and it would create more than 200 jobs over its lifetime.

First phase of the project will be partially funded by the council and European Union, and it is expected to cost between £2.54m and £3.048m.
