Russia: Gazprom Marketing & Trading, AMSMA Open New Tanker Operations Classroom

Gazprom Marketing & Trading (GM&T) and Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy in St. Petersburg (AMSMA)  announce the opening of a new Tanker Operations Classroom on 16th September 2011.

The opening of the classroom is an important milestone in creation and development of a training of first-class specialists in high-quality and safety operations of a modern tanker fleet necessary to meet the growing export transportation of liquid cargoes, including vessels for the transportation of  LNG and LPG.

Among the invited guests are Heads of the Ministry of Transport of Russian Federation, representatives from St. Petersburg administration, shipping companies and classification societies.

The opening of the classroom represents also a significant step in building the relationship between GM&T and Academy which was first initiated in 2010 when GM&T provided marine cadets of the Academy with seamanship on the ships of foreign companies that were in long-term charter of Gazprom.

The growth of domestic LNG production in remote Arctic and Far Eastern locations in Russia provides further potential for this cooperation’s development and attraction of foreign partners. New projects will inevitably require a large number of Russian first-class seafarers with expertise in LNG, offshore operations and ice/winter navigation and engineering.  GM&T‘s choice of AMSMA was a natural one thanks to the Academy’s traditional role as the main maritime education centre in Russia since 19th century.
