Russia - Vyborg Shipyard to Start Construction of Next Icebreaker

Vyborg Shipyard is about to start construction of the next Icebreaker of project 21900М. The keel-laying ceremony for 16 MW diesel-powered Icebreaker is scheduled for December 12th 2012.

Icebreaker project 21900М is a two-decker of unrestricted navigation with two full-revolving rudder propellers and bow thruster. Displacement about 10.000 t. Length 116 m, width 26,5 m. Icebreaking capability up to 1.5 m.

“Ceremony of keel-laying of the next Icebreaker at Vyborg Shipyard will take place ahead of schedule. According to plan the Shipyard will start construction of this vessel only in the beginning of February 2013“, mentioned Alexander Solovyev, General Director of Vyborg Shipyard.

Purpose of the Vessel: independent ice escorting of heavy-tonnage vessels; towage, fire fighting on floaters and other facilities; salvage and assistance to distressed vessels; transportation of cargo.
