Russia: Yantar Shipyard Holds Launching Ceremony for Deep-Sea Research Vessel Seliger


Launching of this heading order of the Ministry of Defense of Russia was timed to the Day of Russian Navy. The vessel “Seliger” is intended for equipment test operation, deep-sea research and rescue works. Length of the vessel is 59,7m, width – 10,8m, displacement – ca 1117t, speed – 13 knots, cruising range – 1000 miles, crew – 16 persons and 9 members of expedition.

“Seleger” is a heading vessel of Project 11982 elaborated by the Central Marine Design Bureau “Almaz”. Shipyard “Yantar” has signed the Shipbuilding Contract with the Ministry of Defense of RF in February 2009. Laying the keel took place on July 08.2009. Till the end of the present year the vessel is to be delivered to the Customer.

Shipyard “Yantar” was established on the base of the Konigsberg branch of Schichau Werft in 1945 after World War II finishing. Several generations of Kaliningrad shipbuilders put their labour in development of new enterprise and production of hundreds of ships. For more than 50 years of its history “Yantar” has become a famous builder and repairer of the modern war ships and high-effective civil vessels.
