Sabella engages Open Ocean’s current analysis services
Sabella, a French tidal energy developer, has chosen Open Ocean’s current analysis system Metocean Analytics for the examination of the ocean currents on Sabella’s future tidal energy sites.
According to Open Ocean, Metocean Analytics simplifies and accelerates the search and analysis process for potential sites thanks to a large catalogue of currents, waves and wind data, coupled with statistical tools analyzing precisely the locations of interest, and an editing tool providing reports on-demand.
Sabella’s decision to hire Open Ocean follows its recent deployment of 1 MW D10 tidal turbine in Fromveur Passage, off Ushant island, France.
The company now plans to focus on the commercialization of its tidal technology, international expansion and exploration of new potential sites around the world for their tidal energy projects.

As reported earlier, Sabella signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Indonesian companies PLP and MEINDO to develop ocean current energy in Indonesia for remote areas of the country. The turbines to be deployed in Indonesia will be of 100 kW to 2.5 MW in capacity, according to Sabella.

Open Ocean is a Paris-based company with research and development center in Brest.
Its team specializes in high resolution numerical modeling, statistical analysis and data mining, and offers services for the marine renewable energy.
