“Alex’s appointment to SAL Heavy Lift Singapore is an evolutionary step,” said Justin Archard, managing director of SAL Heavy Lift across those regions.

“As SAL becomes more deeply immersed in complex projects and where real time engineering is required, having Alex’s knowledge and skills available to clients throughout this part of the world is a logical step and a service we are very happy to offer.”

SAL Heavy Lift’s operations in Asia/Australasia are moving substantively towards more and more complex project work requiring more engineering hours and real time solutions. The company is currently busy moving various sections for Australia’s new offshore gas installations or ‘giga-projects’ such as Ichthys off the coast of Darwin.

“Many of the items we’re transporting are unprecedented in terms of both weight and sensitivity,” confirmed Archard.

“The planning of such projects is correspondingly unprecedented and requires continual work, so we took the decision to bring Alex down to Singapore. It makes much more sense to be able to work with someone with his skills across the office floor rather than by email or telephone.”

Poetz studied naval architecture, offshore technology and applied sciences at the Technical University of Hamburg (TUHH), and the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen, before graduating with his engineering degree.
