Sale of Diana Boxship Falls Through

Athens-based containership owner Diana Containerships will keep the 3,739 TEU Cap Domingo in its fleet as the previously announced sale was binned.

Diana had agreed to sell the 2001-built Panamax boxship to an unnamed buyer for USD 24.25 million back in July. However, the deal was subject to approval by the buyer’s Board of Directors, not later than September 4, when Diana was informed that the buyer did not get the necessary approval.

The Cap Domingo is currently chartered at a gross charter rate of USD 9,900 per day to German tramp shipping company Rudolf A. Oetker KG, a subsidiary of Hamburg Süd,  for a period of up to minimum December 24, 2015 to maximum March 8, 2016.

Diana’s fleet currently consists of 13 boxships ranging from 3,426 TEU to 6,541 TEU in capacity.

The company also expects to take delivery of two Post-Panamaxes, the first by mid-September 2015 and the other by the end of November 2015.
