SapuraKencana Nets $180 Mln JDA Job

SapuraKencana, Malaysian provider of oilfield services, has announced that it has been awarded an EPCIC contract from Trans Thai-Malaysia Sdn Bhd (TTM) worth approximately $180.6 million.

The engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning contract is for the JDA Gas Balancing Evacuation (“EVA”) Project . JDA is an abbreviation for the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area in the Gulf of Thailand.

The contract with SapuraKencana is for a period of three years and the works are expected to start in the second quarter of 2013. Estimated completion date is the first quarter of 2016.

The base development for JDA Gas Balancing Evacuation Project is to export gas from Muda Platform (B-17) and Cakerawala Platform (A-18) in JDA through a new pipeline which will tie-in to LAWIT Platform.

In 1997, Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT) and Malaysia’s Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) entered into the Heads of Agreement (HOA) to purchase the JDA gas on a 50:50 basis. PTT and PETRONAS entered into a 50:50 joint venture on pipeline and gas separation plant projects and consequently established Trans Thai-Malaysia (Thailand) Limited (TTM) to overlook the gas pipeline and gas separation plant projects on February 4, 2000.
