Scottish Renewables Responds to International Energy Agency Report

Responding to the International Energy Agency report, Niall Stuart, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables:

“This puts into context the level of financial support given to fossil fuel based electricity generators such as coal and gas compared to renewable energy.

“We hope these figures will silence the vocal minority of naysayers who repeatedly claim renewable technologies such as wind power are too expensive.

“We also welcome the International Energy Agency’s statement that renewables has become an ‘indispensable part of the global energy mix’ which reinforces Scotland’s opportunity through our world leading wave and tidal industry.

“The IEA report predicts renewables will become the world’s second-largest source of power generation by 2015, way ahead of where we are likely to be in the UK. We will not close the gap unless we get a clear sense of direction and support from the coalition government.”
