Seatricity deploys Oceanus 2

Seatricity has installed its wave energy converter Oceanus 2 at the Wave Hub test site off Cornwall.

Following several days of works on the mooring infrastructure laid during previous deployments, in collaboration with marine contractors Keynvor MorLift (KML), and Seawide Services, the 162 kW device was installed at its berth at Wave Hub.

The main challenge was to recover the main pump’s reactive tether, a bespoke fibre rope and connection assembly weighing over 200 kg.

During the trials, the Falmouth-based wave energy developer plans to measure performance data for comparison with its existing models, verify the longevity of key components and collect other relevant data.

Oceanus 2 works as float that travels up and down with the waves operates a pump to pressurize sea water which is piped ashore to drive the generators to produce electricity.
