Sembcorp Marine finishes two platforms for giant oil project off Qatar

Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine has completed the work for two offshore platforms destined for an oil field project located in Qatari waters.

North Oil Company (NOC)

Back in December 2019, Sembcorp Marine announced the deal to fabricate two wellhead platforms for the Al Shaheen oil field, which is operated by the North Oil Company (NOC). These platforms, awarded under NOC’s Gallaf Batch 2 project, will be bridge-linked to the field’s existing facilities.

While announcing the completion of these two wellhead platforms, the Singapore player explained within its results for the third quarter of 2022 that the project involved the entire production chain – from engineering design, procurement and construction to the transportation, installation and offshore integration.

Situated off the northeast coast of Qatar in the Persian Gulf, 80 km north of Ras Laffan, the Al Shaheen field is said to be Qatar’s largest offshore oil field and contributes to 45 per cent of the country’s oil production. The Gallaf project is a multi-phase development for maintaining the field’s production capacity at a plateau of 300,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd).

When it comes to Sembcorp Marine’s other recent activities, it is worth noting that the firm inked a contract with Petrobras in October 2022 for the construction of an FPSO.
