Senator Applauds Investments in Dunmore East

The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney TD, recently announced details of a €6 million dredging project, which his Department has awarded for works at Dunmore East Fishery Harbor Center.

Commenting this, Waterford Sinn Fein Senator David Cullinane, said: “This announcement by Minister Coveney is good news for fishermen, the local community, and the South East region.

“It is vitally important that dredging work in the harbor takes place as soon as possible to maximize its full potential.

“The Fishery Harbor Center at Dunmore East is an important piece of infrastructure and the bedrock of the local community.

“Right across Ireland coastal communities are struggling to survive so it good to see the government investing in the fishing industry and in coastal livelihoods.

“The South East region has suffered badly over the years from government neglect and lack of investment in jobs and employment creation.

“The development of the pier at Dunmore East is critical to the growth of our fishing industry,   the wider seafood sector and to the tourist industry in the region.”

The contract to complete the works was awarded to L&M Keating Ltd. following a competitive tendering process. It is anticipated that the works will begin this month and be substantially completed by the end of September.
