Shanghai Waigaoqiao Snaps Up 11,000 TEU Order

Business & Finance

Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), a shipbuilding subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corp, has won an order for six 11,000 TEU containerships from an undisclosed European owner.

The deal was landed on April 28th, according to the shipbuilding conglomerate’s announcement.

Further details on the value of the order and potential delivery dates have not been disclosed yet.

SWS believes that the order marks an important milestone in the company’s efforts to secure a place on the market of construction of large ships of 19800 TEU and 21000 TEU design.

Construction of these giants of the seas is nothing new to the shipbuilder as it has already secured orders for ultra large container carriers such as the one placed by French liner giant CMA CGM for three 18,000 TEU boxships in 2013.
